Beaky is another summer resident at Last Mountain Lake Regional Park. In late summer, hundreds, sometimes thousands, of these giant pelicans can be observed rotating in flocks above the park. They’re preparing for their southward journey and it’s an amazing sight! Enjoy!

No visit to Last Mountain Lake Regional Park (LMLRP) is complete without a sunset stroll on the beach. We spotted this little sandpiper methodically searching for food along the shore. He’s one of thousands of birds that call the area around LMLRP home in the summer. A very special place to unwind!
This modified Grumman F8F Bearcat is aptly named "Rare Bear" and has a winning racing history. And that's all I know other than its a pretty plane. Photo cred to my hubby Ron who snapped the reference photo at the 2013 Reno Air Races. I enjoy the abstract shapes and painting it MUCH more than watching it race!!!
“Slick” was a fellow I observed near Osoyoos last April. He was in a mighty hurry to catch up with a hen he knew. What a pretty guy! I’ve been having fun with my birds...stay tuned tomorrow for a different type of flier. Enjoy!
Day 2 of my 30 paintings in 30 days. This gorgeous Peacock strutted about as though the entire Calgary zoo was his to command. It's hard not to take him seriously when he is so stern looking! The clear blues and greens and the pattern in his huge tail are one of natures most gorgeous displays. This acrylic painting is on a 12"x12" cradled birch panel. Enjoy! I found myself in a bit of a painting slump last month. In an effort to jump-start my painting year I've committed to my very first 30 in 30. What's that? I'll be joining a group of artists and painting one [small] painting per day beginning today and finishing up March 2. It's a big commitment but it will push me in a couple of important ways:
