Today I played around with watercolour for a while. I enjoy the clear, bright colours I can get in this medium. This flyer is pure imagination of course. Enjoy!

For this 12th day of my 30 day challenge I chose this cocky guy. This big dude lived at the Saskatoon Farm near Calgary when I shot photos of him several years ago. He was a big fella, the biggest of that bunch anyway. Enjoy!
This little yellow-bellied flycatcher was caught in a mist net and gently weighed and measured before being banded. This photo reference was taken just before its release. You can watch this entire process in person at Last mountain Regional Park. Enjoy!
Once again I’m painting a summer resident of Last Mountain Regional Park, home to a bird banding station. The scientists are very aware of what’s happening in the immediate area and pointed out this unfolding and rather noisy drama. This wee house wren fledge had just taken its first flight and was looking over its shoulder for momma. She was there madly tweeting her encouragement! Fun memory!
Spike and I met in Lake Tahoe area in 2013. He’s a Stellar’s Jay and a very pretty boy. He and his brother jays were hard to miss with their glossy and brilliant plumage and outgoing personalities. Fun to watch!
Woody is a small Downy woodpecker. He loves grazing at the local suet feeders here in Lloyd. The photo reference for this was taken out the window above my kitchen sink. Enjoy!
Beaky is another summer resident at Last Mountain Lake Regional Park. In late summer, hundreds, sometimes thousands, of these giant pelicans can be observed rotating in flocks above the park. They’re preparing for their southward journey and it’s an amazing sight! Enjoy!
No visit to Last Mountain Lake Regional Park (LMLRP) is complete without a sunset stroll on the beach. We spotted this little sandpiper methodically searching for food along the shore. He’s one of thousands of birds that call the area around LMLRP home in the summer. A very special place to unwind!
This modified Grumman F8F Bearcat is aptly named "Rare Bear" and has a winning racing history. And that's all I know other than its a pretty plane. Photo cred to my hubby Ron who snapped the reference photo at the 2013 Reno Air Races. I enjoy the abstract shapes and painting it MUCH more than watching it race!!!
“Slick” was a fellow I observed near Osoyoos last April. He was in a mighty hurry to catch up with a hen he knew. What a pretty guy! I’ve been having fun with my birds...stay tuned tomorrow for a different type of flier. Enjoy!
