I was surprised to learn that the Western Meadlowlark Is a member of the blackbird family! As Prairie kid, I remember my dad pointing out the beautiful song of this bird many times. He’s not as easy to spot though! This is one of the birds that builds their nest on the ground. Sometimes they have a roof and/or tunnel entrances. Enjoy!
Last April we had a spring storm and under the cover of the snow, a flock of waxwings arrived to gobble up the last of the ash berries. We noticed a robin nestled into the group which was all fluffed up against the cold. Enjoy!
Like a magpie, this Bucerias beach thief liked shiny objects... I’ve taken considerable artistic license here and givenhim funky colours and a copper leaf coin. Enjoy!
This little finch sketch cheered me up considerably! I’m just back from a massage and, unfortunately I’m going to have to cut back a bit on painting time for a bit. Look for more watercolour sketches over the next few days while we see if the inflammation in my painting arm settles down. Cheers!
The great horned owl is a fierce looking flyer! He’s likely to win any staring contest he enters. We photographed this guy in Osoyoos, BC where he lives above a bar aptly named “Owl Pub”. It was a grey April day then but I’ve changed the weather - I can control it in paintings!!!!! Enjoy!
The beautiful Baltimore Oriole is one of my favourite birds at Last Mountain Regional Park. They're easy to spot with their bright orange body and contrasting black heads and wings. Some folks find them easy to attract to their feeders. I've never had any luck here in Lloydminster, although I've tried! Happy Valentine's Day!
Today I played around with watercolour for a while. I enjoy the clear, bright colours I can get in this medium. This flyer is pure imagination of course. Enjoy!
For this 12th day of my 30 day challenge I chose this cocky guy. This big dude lived at the Saskatoon Farm near Calgary when I shot photos of him several years ago. He was a big fella, the biggest of that bunch anyway. Enjoy!
Welcome! I hope you enjoy my painting blog. Painting gives me so much joy and I love sharing my journey. Thanks for visiting!
